NAUVOO, Ill. – When Jacqueline White of South Pasadena, Calif., wanted her son, Caleb, to learn more about the African-American pioneers who left Nauvoo for the Salt Lake Valley, she looked for a church play or pageant to help tell the story.
The quest put them both on stage, beginning tonight, as the Nauvoo Pageant kicks off its second season.
A production crew of more than 100 professionals, 21 experienced actors and more than 800 volunteers – from 31 states, three Canadian provinces, the United Kingdom and even the Far East – stage the show through Aug. 4 in Nauvoo.
