I understand the need for a control group, but exactly why “Mormon elders of Chache County” are being study is not answered in the article. I’ve e-mailed the editor for clarification.
Scientists at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and colleagues at several other institutions have been studying the Mormon elders of Cache County, Utah, and have used an extensive database on these residents to understand Alzheimer’s risk factors. When epidemiologist Ara S. Khachaturian looked at the medicines people in the study were taking, it became clear that there was something about certain blood pressure-lowering drugs that seemed to protect the brain.
