Salt Lake Tribune – Utah: Refuge House abuses alleged Substance recovery: LDS residents say the program was biased

A Christian-based living center for drug and alcohol abusers forced its Mormon residents to pay tithing to another church because the program’s administrators do not consider members of the LDS faith to be Christians, former residents claimed Friday…

Rupp, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said his “tithing” was paid to the Central Christian Church because his church didn’t qualify. And during required weekly Bible study sessions, Rupp said, the Central Christian Church instructor called Rupp’s religion a “cult” and said his prophets were false. Rupp says he was told he could attend the LDS Church if he first went to Central Christian Church and found an escort from the LDS congregation. He decided not to go because of the difficulty.
