Wisconsin Instructor’s 9/11 Conspiracy Theories ill-serve Students

Keven Barrett & Steven Jones, two charlatanish peas in a pod.

Wisconsin Instructor’s 9/11 Conspiracy Theories ill-serve Students:

Chicago, IL, October 11, 2006 … University of Wisconsin instructor Kevin Barrett’s use of 9/11 conspiracy theories and choice of a textbook that equates President George W. Bush with Adolf Hitler and bashes Israel raise serious questions about whether he has crossed the line into political advocacy, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said today.

“While we respect academic freedom, ADL is deeply concerned that the students in Barrett’s class are receiving a taxpayer-funded indoctrination into the instructor’s personal political views that the U.S. government perpetrated the 9/11 attacks, that America is equivalent to Nazi Germany and that Israel is a racist state,” said Lonnie Nasatir, Regional Director of ADL’s Upper Midwest office and a University of Wisconsin alumnus. “Students who have signed up for a class purportedly about Islam are being ill-served by this content, which has little to do with that great religion.” …[Read more]

  1. I really don’t care whether or not 9/11 conspiracy theories “ill-serve students.” I care whether or not they are true. There is much more evidence to support some of those theories than there is to support the government-sponsored conspiracy theory.

At one point in the history of mankind an Italian astronomer named Galileo Galilei had the temerity to claim the the offical geocentric theory of the solar system was untrue. When he started to teach that the Sun, not the Earth, was the center of our solar system, Galileo was muzzled and told not to “not to hold, teach, or defend” this unpopular theory by the Catholic Church. Indeed there were many within the power structure at the time who claimed his teachings were divisive and heretical. Eventually Galileo was convicted of heresy and sentenced to life imprisonment. It wasn’t until 1992, (more than 300 years later) that the Catholic Church finally recognized that Galileo was indeed right.

The moral of the story: adminstrations tend to do whatever they can to maintain power. Heck, they might even lie and imprison people. The truth is not important to the maintenance of an entrenched power structure, in fact, the truth is often the worst enemy of those occupying entrenched power structures. If Americans knew the truth about 9/11 they would be justifiably incensed with their government. The government does not want that to happen so they have set out to mislead the public. It is not the first time this has happened, nor will it be the last time.

LDS Patriot, you continue to support and defend the Bush administration and to attack those who disagree with their blatant cover-up, just as so many supported the Catholic Church in its condemnation of Galileo. I must tell you, though, that the establishment position is not always correct and is certainly not correct just because it is more popular.

I’m sure there were many in Galileo’s time who believed the evidence supported a geocentric view of our solar system. This belief was not based on an exhaustive examination of the evidence, but on the acceptance of prevalent contemporary theory.

When you condemn Kevin Barrett and Steven Jones without exhaustively examining their claims, you are perpetuating the status quo, without regard for the truth. People continue to express amazement that Galileo was imprisoned for telling the truth. many people write that incident off as backwards 17th century thinking, but the same spirit is alive and well today.
