LDS Beliefs

The Mormon Church has many teachings and beliefs the information found here will just include the most basic beliefs of the Church.

God is our Heavenly Father

This is one of the most basic principles of the Mormon Church. Members are taught that Heavenly Father is the father of our spirits. He knows and loves each of us and wants each of his children to return to live with Him again.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God

Mormons believe in Jesus Christ and believe the teachings found in the Bible. He redeemed all mankind from death through the resurrection. He saves us from sin through the atonement if we will repent. Although many people think Mormons are not Christian, this is not true, belief in Jesus Christ is an essential part of Mormon beliefs.

The Holy Ghost

The third member of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost helps us feel the spirit and influence of God. He is a spiritual being who has the ability to bring things to our remembrance, comfort us, help us to know when something is true, and teach through the spirit of God.

Faith, Repentance, Baptism and Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost

The Mormon Church teaches that a person must make and keep certain covenants to return to live with Heavenly Father. To do this a person must have faith in Jesus Christ, repent of their sins through the proper use of the atonement, enter into the covenant of baptism and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost from a person who has the proper authority. There are other covenants that must be made but these are the first and most basic.

Restoration of the Priesthood

The priesthood authority held by Christ has been restored to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith. The real authority of the priesthood was lost when the apostles of Christ were killed, so the authority had to be restored by Heavenly messengers. These messengers were John the Baptist, the apostles Peter, James and John and others.

The Bible is the Word of God

The Mormon Church regards the Bible as the word of God, as well as The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. Belief in continuing revelation is why these other books of scripture are accepted as official doctrine.

Modern Day Prophets

With the restoration of the gospel, God has once again called men like the ancient prophets Moses or Noah, to be prophets. These prophets have the authority to speak to us in God’s name. The prophet on the earth today is Gordon B. Hinckley.

Plan of Salvation

Our lives have a sacred purpose. We lived with God as spirits before being born into mortality. Mortality is a necessary “test” to allow us to progress to exaltation. By following God’s commandments, and entering into the required covenants, families can be together forever.

Basic Beliefs of Mormon Religion

Why Mormonism

Mormon Doctrine

  1. As a member of the church of jesus christ of later day saints. I find this web site very helpful. Of course you should direct people to the main site which is http://www.mormon.org or http://www.lds.org

  2. Hebrews 12:1-2 reads “Wherefore seeing we are also compassed about with so great cloud of WITNESSES, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” I want to point something out to you about this verse. First off, probably the prominent thought that I have regarding other religions is the fact that all of them were founded by one man. Now that individual has many followers, but I believe they follow the founder because of convenience. In other words, their secular mindset agrees with the theories of the founder and therefore just so they have an excuse to not feel like they must be sold out to God in order to truly call themselves a Christian. If you notice, I capitalized the word “witnesses” to show the significance in the fact that that word is plural. See what bothers my spirit with false religions, including the LDS, is that only one person can testify to the doctrines that he/she has theoretically constructed. The founder is the only one who has “experienced” (or claims to have experienced) what he/she has found. Before I continue in this arguement, let me just say that no man founded Christianity. The men who wrote the original Holy Bible (as opposed to the Mormon Bible, or the Jehova Witness Bible, etc.) all had an encounter with God himself. Moses, with the burning bush. Isaiah, in the temple the year king Uzziah died. Mary, when she discovered that Jesus was no longer in the tomb three days after he died. Paul, on the road to Damascus. Your site claims that Joseph Smith was told by an angel. I assure you that if what Mr. Smith received from this so-called angel is contradictive to what the Bible says, it was not an angel from heaven. The devil has angels as well. The difference between hell’s angels (not the motorcycle gang) and heaven’s angels is that hell’s angels are demons in disguise. They may present themselves as holy and bright and beautiful, but just because what they present sounds convenient, doesn’t mean they are from God. See, if the Mormon church was true, Joseph Smith’s encounter would have been from God. But even more so, if it was God, Smith would have been apprehended by the love of God. Here’s what was wrong with Joseph Smith, he claims that an angel gave him revelation about missing doctrines in the church. But we have no way of knowing if the angel told Smith to go and proclaim what he found out. He, rather, had to write up a document and present that document to a committee, and then they would decide whether or not he was aloud to preach his discoveries. With God, you don’t need to present a proposal to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life….” No other man’s doctrine or revelation can bridge the gap between a lost humanity and God. There is only ONE way, only ONE truth, and only ONE life, and His name is Jesus.

  3. My believe is Roman Catholic Church , I come to know the religion of Mormon when i open a web site of the mormon religion. at first page of the web i found a very nice pharse that states Why Mormon …… becouse you want to be happy for ever which every human being should enjoy and test it. I liked the religion of MORMON very much .every single person needs happines.

  4. mark – Joseph Smith did see God and Christ. See http://www.mormon.org/learn/0,8672,955-1,00.html for basic information about the church and http://www.mormon.org/learn/0,8672,957-1,00.html for more information about Joseph Smith.

He was confused about which church to join – he wanted to join the church that Christ formed when he was here. He tried to find it but all churches said they were the right one and he tried to figure out which one was formed by Christ. He followed the counsel of James 1:5 to pray. He prayed and God the father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him that the church Christ formed when he was here was no longer on the earth and that they wanted to re-establish Christ’s church in the latter days, fulfilling biblical prophecy dealing with restoration of all things, in preparation for Christ’s second coming.

The Book of Mormon is another testament of Christ, just like Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were four testaments of Christ, the Book of Mormon also contains records of God’s dealings with men, but these prophets were on the American continent. Go poke around at http://www.mormon.org and http://www.lds.org to learn more.

  5. Greetings and Salutations LDS Patriot,
This is my first contact of this Website.
Are you authorized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and/or is this ruse???
If you are indeed sincere, what is the purpose of this Website???
I have a GREAT testimony as to the TRUTH of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!!!
Having been a Special Forces Officer (Green Beret) for some twenty-five (25) plus years, I’m a PATRIOT to the nth degree.

  6. See comment stated above!!!

  7. To John M. Anderson

Dear Mr. Anderson, I am interested in your story as an officer in the Green Beret and a member of the LDS Church I wonder what your expereince as such has been? I am not a member of the US Armed Forces, but do have a continuing fascination with Special Forces and Special Operations Forces and wonder about the stories of LDS men in these postions.

I wonder if there is a resource for such stories?

Thanks for your service to God and Country.

  8. Having read your basic beliefs of the Mormon Church I want to mention first
that the Bible, the true word of God, states, actually warns, that nobody must
add or take away anything found in the Bible. Second, God, the only God is a
triune God – The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was sent
to each of His believers from Jesus Christ on His ascension to heaven. As
He was no longer on earth His spirit was sent us. Therefore, I don’t believe
anyone can be good enough to impart the Holy Spirit. It’s God’s divine gift.
